TCN STANDARDIZES NEW SUBSTATIONS

The Management of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has commenced the process of designing and standardizing all new substations across the country with the engagement of a consultant to pilot the programme.

The Interim Managing Director /CEO, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed, gave this indication in his opening remarks during a meeting with the consultant and stakeholders from Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and engineers in TCN on Wednesday, 30th August 2017, in Abuja.

Mr. Mohammed noted that the design and standardization of TCN substations equipment has become necessary in view of the cost and time spent by TCN on various consultants in the designing of substations for each new project.

He further explained that the essence of engaging the consultant was to bring out the best in TCN’s engineers through peer review mechanism.

He used the occasion to disclosed plan for the training of TCN’s engineers on the latest techniques in design and standardization and directed that communication and SCADA should be incorporated into each project.

In his presentation, the Consultant, Engr. Tarana Thakakar of Ohm Econ Private Limited of India, stated that the company has visited three TCN power substations in Apo, Kukwaba and Katampe, all in Abuja, and made it observations and expressed readiness to render the needed service to TCN.

The participants were unanimous in commending the management for the new spirit in setting standard in TCN and urge all hands to be on desk for the success of the programme.
